CAUME was founded in June, 1984. 109 physicians,scientists,engineers and ultrasonographers from hospitals,universities,scientific institutes and manufacturers of ultrasound equipment all over China decided to create a non-profit scientific organization named as China Association of Ultrasound and Engineering. It is dedicated to the mission of bringing educational materials and information to the ultrasound community. The objectives of the Association shall be scientific, literary and educational. Its aims shall be to encourage research in the field; to promote international cooperation in the field; and to disseminate scientific information. All members of the community come together to support its development, to share their expertise and their passion for ultrasound.

.During the past 20 years, the network is growing rapidly, the total number of individual members is over 15000.The CAUME has organized 9 national and 2 international scientific meetings to highlight clinical and experimental contributions made to the field of ultrasonic;

　　In 1984, Dr. Guo Wanxue, the founder of the CAUME, became the first President of CAUME. He is one of the most widely recognized authorities on medical diagnostic ultrasound. His great contribution will be recorded in the history of the CAUME.

　　《Ultrasound in Medicine》,edited by Zhou Yongchang and Guo Wanxue,was appointed as training textbook for the CDFI Certification by the Minister of Health.
